Named after the sixth principle of Kwanzaa's weeklong celebration of African culture – meaning "creativity" and the enrichment of community in all ways possible – Kuumba 2016 brings three days of dynamic programming to Harbourfront Centre, February 5-7th. In Toronto, Black History Month is a treasured time of year, with this three-day cultural celebration at its precipice. Designed to entertain and engage topical issues through concerts, conversations, comedy, and dance, many of the weekend's events are free, while others have a nominal ticket charge. Black Like She – Women in Comedy Showcase
February 5th, 9-11pm
Brigantine Room – FREE
Aimed at ages 19+, this brazen night of female comedians mixes improv and stand-up to explore gender-race issues through the insightful lens of laughter.
Black Youth as an Endangered Species
February 6th, 3-4pm

This passionate discussion promises to be one of the most talked about events at Kuumba, tackling the unfortunate intersection of institutional violence and minority youth.
Dispatches from Tomorrow

"The Grandfather of Rap," Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, joins one of Gil Scott-Heron's most celebrated understudies, Malik Al Nasir, for a historic night of spoken word focused on the relationship between Islam and hip-hop.
